The Sinless in Sleep

While sleeping we suspend judgment
We have no ego or motive
We can harm no one
Excepting the rare sleep walker
Who, with no blame, may cause unforeseen pain
And hurt an innocent man

We pray before sleeping sometimes
Asking forgiveness of sin
But with heads on pillows and pills in bellies
We are finally free of again

For there is no opportunity
To wrong anybody
To commit any one of ten
Mortal sins deadly or not
That need to be forgiven again

Is there a way to live during the day
As innocent as in sleep
Maybe with conscious raised
And bad habits belayed
Our souls will find the way
